School Visits

YOUR STUDENTS Hugh Workshop are given an exciting flight into the world of nature and discovery when you schedule interactive and educational programs with Pelican Pete and his pals. Honored as an Accelerated Reader selection and awarded the Teachers’ Choice Award, the series and the event are a hit with teachers and students alike.

About Our Programs: At the beginning of each interactive, 60 minute program, we discuss the writing process, researching, and choosing a topic. This segues into our nature theme and why pelicans are "strange and unusual" birds.

Two storytelling presentations follow, including environmental education discussions where students contribute ways to help wildlife and keep our waters clean.

We then devote 15 minutes to answering questions about pelicans, illustrating, writing, rhyming, rewriting and editing.Frances Answers Questions

Every student attending is given a keepsake, and the final 15 minutes is used to autograph and personalize books for students who want to purchase their own copies.

STUDENTS are introduced to current environmental concerns expressed through the fun and familiar mediums of art and rhyme, and gain insight into how their individual and team efforts can implement change and contribute to wildlife conservation.

They see that books are written and illustrated by real people, and they gain a perspective on how the skills they are learning in school relate to the real world.

YOU'LL RECEIVE tips, activities, and a time-line for creating a successful visit; cross curriculum ideas and teacher guides to maximize the learning experience; an announcement flyer to copy for parents; posters for halls and classrooms; and fun keepsakes for every student attending.
