Learn about our coastline’s most fascinating bird, the clown-prince of the bird kingdom-- the Brown Pelican. How high can they start their dives? Why are they not hurt when they crash into the sea? What do they eat? Where do they live? Discover the answers to these questions and many more in this interactive family presentation.

Making Friends in the Wild:

Find out about all the strange critters that live in our coastal community like the endangered gopher tortoise, armor-clad armadillos, and America’s largest snake, the Indigo. You’ll familiarize yourself with the habits and habitats of these intriguing “new neighbors” and spend hours being entertained by observing them.

Tidal Treasures:

Sierra MonarchIn our most popular children’s program, you’ll feel, touch and see some of the riches deposited by the sea. Sharks teeth, bones, shells, and sea beans each offer their own unique story and form. Kid’s love our beach baskets and are assured of a few treasures of their own to take home.

Go Outside!

Helping children connect with nature is our primary goal at Sagaponack Books. Using books as a medium to introduce the great outdoors encourages the young and old alike to explore all that the natural world has to offer. Together, with Frances, you’ll discuss the significant effects of Nature Deficit Disorder as she offers attendees a solution to this world wide epidemic.

Wildlife Habitats:

Learn how to easily turn your yard, patio or deck into a wildlife habitat that will entertain you with the creatures that call it home. Attract birds and butterflies by simply using native plants that are environmentally friendly, beautiful and low maintenance!

Promoting Science through Literature:

We use picture books to introduce current environmental issues and open the windows of the mind to the great outdoors.  Discover how environental literature can encourage young and old alike to explore the natural world and maintain the necessary connection with it.

Using Rhyming Stories as a Teaching Tool:

Find out how rhyming stories can be used to help children learn to read.  These fun-ro-read stories are used in homes and classrooms throughout the world to encourage reluctant readers to pick up a book or be drawn into lelarning certain topics by a rhyme's alluring cadence.
